Mary Mckinley was born and raised in Toronto Ontario.
She discovered an old potters wheel tucked away in her high school art room and proceeded to teach herself how to use it. Upon graduating from grade 13 she got accepted at Sheridan School of Craft and Design in Toronto for 3 years.
Craving more intense education she travelled west and studied at Emil Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver for 4 years. After graduating she was invited to join “Clayworks Pottery Co op” on Granville Island in Vancouver where she worked as a full time potter for 5 years.
In 2006, she and her husband moved on to their sailboat full time and cruised the Pacific Northwest. Her pottery was on hold until 2015 when they moved back onto the grid in Port McNeill. She now has a pottery studio in her home and teaches as well.
Her work can be viewed at The Bead Lady’s Gallery here in Port McNeill.
